History:
The Links of Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland; considered the birthplace of golf, were shared by many different clubs throughout the 1700 and 1800's; one of which was the Thistle Golf Club.
The members of the Thistle Golf Club, established in 1815, were considered unique for the careful and respectful way in which they chose to conduct their activities. They published a book, Rules of the Thistle Golf Club in 1824, documenting rules of play and conduct that forever influenced the way the game is played today.
