Stephen F. Austin Golf Club is a long-time favorite, especially for players on the west side of Houston, for its scenic setting along the Brazos River. Don't come out expecting to post a record round based on the length, as the course is set in a pecan tree farm (still harvested every fall) and is very tight. Enjoy the deer and the adjacent SFA State Park campgrounds, but be sure to make camping reservations through the Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept. during the peak camping seasons of March-June and September-October.
Stephen F., as its known to regulars, draws its challenge from the tree-lined fairways and three of its par-3s that range from 184 to 205 yards. There are four forced carries due to Bollinger Creek, which runs through the course.
