South Grove Golf Course was built in 1902 and to this day, it’s still a mystery as to who the architect was. The facility boasts of a great view of the Indianapolis downtown skyline as we are the closest 18-hole golf course to the metro downtown area. The name of the course came from the grove of trees that lined the “south” side of the park on which the course is now located. Although relatively flat, South Grove has tree lined fairways and the lay of the land takes advantage of natural features such as gently rolling hills and elevated plateaus used for green and tee sites. Over the years, this old and charming golf course has hosted many of the city and state’s top amateur tournaments. The most popular of these tournaments dates back to 1948 and is simply known as the South grove Spring Four-Ball. This tournament is regarded as the official kick off to the Indiana amateur golf season and attracts a strong field of amateur golfer’s.
