Play “The Fort”!

The Fort Hays Golf Course is a public course located on the southwest edge of Hays just off of the highway 183 bypass. The course was originally developed as a nine-hole, sand greens golf course in 1929, but it has since been transformed into a beautiful and challenging eighteen hole golf course with irrigated fescue grass fairways and bent grass greens.

The Fort, which is on land that was once part of the historic Fort Hays military outpost, offers a unique mix of characteristics that are common with both a links- style golf course and a parkland-style of golf course.  Golfers must not only account for the prevailing southwest winds, deceiving elevation changes and fast greens, they must also navigate a variety of water hazards.  Nine of the course’s eighteen holes pose potential water hazards.

The course provides three tee locations per hole to accommodate players of all skill levels.  From the forward tees the course is 5,390 yards in length and plays to a par-72.  The middle tees extend the course out to 5,993 yards, while the back tees create a course which is over 6,250 yards in length.  Both the middle and back tee locations play to a par 71.
