The Auburn Hills project was approved by the Wichita City Council in December 1996. Construction on the course began in the fall of 1998, with the course completed in the fall of 2000. The clubhouse was started in 2000 and completed in early 2001.
The course represents a public/private partnership, with the planned development of nearly 800 houses surrounding the course.
The course was designed by Dye Designs, International, based in Denver, Colorado. The company is lead by Perry Dye, who spearheaded the design work at Auburn Hills. The third generation firm has designed over 200 courses throughout the world.
